As the final piece of my Endangered Species Portrait series, everything lead up to this. From the frog, salamander, toucan, monkey, and peafowl, I had 8 weeks to create a theme, proposal and sign a contract and stick to it.

My proposal was to create a series of scratchbord drawings of endangered animals with color realistically within an environment to understand, that the animals you see before you once they are finished their very lives are at stake.

Once the contract was signed everything was set in stone, I had to commit my all to being able to complete what I verbally and writtenly said I would do. If i wasn't able to commit my all, i ultimately would have failed the assignment.

This piece alone is the biggest drawing and challenge I have ever done. The size is tremendously big compared to anything I have ever drawn before. Using only a knife and wire brush as materials I was challenged to my very core. Now my greatest challenge has ultimately became my greates success. This drawing along has challenged me to further this series getting bolder and braver with the sizes and animals.
The Last Ride 16x20
Goldilocks 11x14
Consequence 16x20

The requirement for this drawing was create a subject that is relevant in today's world. I call this one consequence because of the dire consequences in reality we have to live with if we decide to drink, text or talk on the phone while driving. This piece is a mixed media piece done with newspaper, glue, magazines, paint, and colored pencil.

Within this piece came challenges with the multiple mediums I've never tried to use to collage together and create a drawing. Builing the piece from scratch was hard because I had to decide which materials would be the under layers, so this piece had me try out multiple types of swatches to figure out worked out best.

After figuring out how to layer pieces together piece by piece, the materials started to create textures I wasn't familar with drawing. So having that challenge, choosing what materials would stick to the piece and contrast with the background created with the magazine and newspapers. So i found out painting them created a rougher surface that would allow me to work with the colored pencil to get the details needed for the drawing.

Overcoming those challenges became probably one of the hardest earned success I have had artistically and creatively.
